VCU closes OOC schedule with 74-52 win against Navy

VCU (9-4) seemed a bit surprised when Navy jumped out to an 11-0 start to the evening.

With 11:43 to play in the first half, the Midshipmen of Navy were 4-5 from range and were leading the Rams 20-7.

Shooting from the Rams was slow at first as they started the game just 3-10 from the floor.

A 14-4 run from the Rams almost cleared the deficit entirely.

VCU finally took their first lead of the night on the heels of back-to-back triples from Jayden Nunn. He would finish the night with 8 points on 2-3 shooting from long distance.

Mac Macdonald locked in on his next shot and Navy tied the game one last time.

But, a triple from Ace Baldwin on the subsequent possession pushed the Rams out on top for the final time on the evening.

Baldwin would finish the night with 3 points, 3 rebounds, and a game-high 8 assists.

Jamir Watkins and Jalen DeLoach each had a game-high 18 points  on the evening.

Despite shooting 47% from deep, the Midshipmen struggled against VCU's pressure defense.

Navy would turn the ball over 17 times resulting in 26 points for the Rams.

Conversely, VCU only coughed the ball up 9 times all night.

While the Rams only shot 35% from distance, they connected on 52% of their shots from the floor—leading to a 46 point performance in the paint by the Rams.

This was the final Out of Conference game of the regular season for the Rams.

VCU will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 31st, as they take on the Explorers of La Salle. That game is set to tip off at 2pm ET.
