First-Half Firepower
VCU (23-5, 13-2 A-10) wasted no time taking control, using a
16-2 run to build a
24-10 lead. The Rams were nearly unstoppable offensively, knocking down
10 three-pointers on just 15 attempts (67%) and shooting
a blistering 75% from the floor through the first 16 minutes. They finished the half at
70%, scoring a season-high
51 first-half points while holding Richmond to just 33.
Second-Half Surge and Response
The Spiders showed life after halftime, using a
15-2 run to cut the Rams’ lead to
63-54. Richmond forced
seven VCU turnovers in just over eight minutes, ramping up their defensive intensity. However, momentum swung back to the Rams at the
4:22 mark, when Spiders head coach Chris Mooney was whistled for a
technical foul. Max Shulga knocked down both free throws, and Joe Bamisile followed with a layup to push the lead back to
13 points. From there, VCU closed the game on a
15-4 run, securing their
seventh straight win and
13th in their last 14 games.
