VCU defense blocks St. Peters in opening night win, 57-54

Hason Ward had a fortunate, under-handed tip-in with 25-seconds left on the game clock to put the Rams back on top.

On the subsequent possession, Vince Williams came up with the steal and then was fouled before hitting two free throws to lock in the, 57-54, opening night win against the Peacocks of St. Peters.

Ward finished the night with a team-high trifecta of 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

The Rams ended the evening with 12 total blocks.

Williams ended with 9 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

VCU lead by as many as 17 points in the first half, but the Peacocks used several runs over the second half to take their first lead of the game with 1:59.

The Rams turned the ball over 19 times as well which led to 14 points for the Peacocks.

St. Peters out rebounded VCU to the tune of 38-31 including 13 offensive rebounds that led to 11 second-chance points.

The Rams game showed sparks throughout the contest including several dunks from Ward and KeShawn Curry.

Curry finished the evening with 12 points and 3 assists.

The Rams also translated 10 steals, and 21 total turnovers from the Peacocks, into 16 points for their offense.

Freshman, Jayden Nunn, started in the point guard position and chipped in an additional 9 points and 4 steals on the evening.

The Rams return to action Saturday, November 13th, as they host the Seahawks of Wagner. That game is set to tip at 7pm EST.
