VCU defense key in decisive victory against La Salle, 90-52

There’s certainly no place like home!
The Rams (15-5, 5-2 A10) conference schedule started with four of their first six contests on the road before hosting the Explorers of La Salle. Coming off back-to-back losses, and facing a team tied for a share of first place in the A10, it was unclear with VCU team would come out to play.
That question was answered with a near perfect first half of basketball by the Rams.
JeQuan Lewis (15pts, 5ast) would go on a 11-0 run by himself in just two minutes and 17 seconds while hitting 3 three pointers and a layup. Lewis’ 11 points were part of a larger 19-0 run the Rams used to build a 42-16 lead at the half.
La Salle shot just 4-26 for 15% and turned the ball over 9 times in the first twenty minutes of action today. The Explores would finish the afternoon 15-53 from the field (28%) with 16 turnovers.
Junior forward Justin Tillman would lead the Rams with 16 points while also grabbing 9 rebounds.
VCU would outrebound the Explorers, 43-30.
Ahmed Hamdy-Mohamed would notch his second double-double in the last three games as he contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds to the Rams totals.
Samir Doughty, a Philadelphia native, and Jordan Burgess would join the Rams as the other two double-digit scorer players on the day with 15 and 10 points respectively.
VCU will return to action against the Dayton Flyers on Friday, January 27th at 9:00PM right here at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. The game will also be broadcast on ESPN2.
