While they did not make the NCAA tournament this year, postseason play will continue for VCU as they have been selected to play in the NIT. On Sunday night, VCU accepted an invitation to play in the NIT tournament as a #3 seed. The Rams will face 6-seeded Princeton in the first round of the tournament this Tuesday, March 15th at 7:00pm at the Siegel Center in Richmond, VA. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
The Rams were a consensus NCAA bubble team leading into the Atlantic 10 tournament, until the crosstown rival Richmond Spiders knocked them off in the quarterfinals. The Spiders would eventually defeat Dayton (another NCAA tournament hopeful who will now play in the NIT) and win the Atlantic 10 tournament outright to secure their own bid to the big dance.
Princeton is coming off an Ivy League tournament championship game loss, after winning the Ivy League regular season title.
