VCU drops Capital City Classic to Richmond, 67-52

Coming into tonights game VCU had gotten the better of crosstown rival, Richmond, in six of the last six matchups.

Tonight was all UR as it seemed the Rams didn't have a response for anything the Spiders threw at them.

Richmond shot 54% on the evening with four players getting into double-digits.

Grant Golden led all scorers with 17 points to go along with his 6 rebounds.

UR used a 10-0 run in the first half to build a 12 point advantage over the Rams before a jumper from Issac Vann and a three-pointer from De'Riante Jenkins (5pts/2reb) brought the deficit to 5 points.

The Rams would get no closer for the remainder of the game.

Mike'l Simms and Justin Tillman both finished the night with 12 points for the Rams.

Issac Vann was the only other player to enter double-digit scoring for VCU with 10 points.

Tillman finished with 9 rebounds—one short of grabbing his 8th consecutive double-double.

U of R out-rebounded VCU to the tune of a 38-28 margin.

The Spiders also scored almost two-thirds are their points in the paint (42). VCU ended the evening with 30 points in the paint.

Cold shooting plagued VCU from start to finish as the Rams shot 21-61 from the floor for 34%.

VCU ended 4-23 from three-point range for 17% on the night.

The Rams will return to action Saturday, Jan 20th as they host the Colonials of George Washington. That game is set to tip-off at 12:30pm.
