VCU drops tough home matchup against Dayton, 82-52

It was the Rams return to the Siegel Center after winning back-to-back gutsy games on the road. But, the Flyers didn't get the memo as the ran out of the gym with the 82-52 win.

The Rams were without leading scorer Vince Williams (injury), and Jalen DeLoach (concussion protocol).

From the opening tip, the intensity was visible on the court. Both teams rattled off long scoring runs; Dayton with a 9-0 run and VCU with a 10-0 run.

Ace Baldwin hits a triple at the 7:27 mark in the first half to tie the game up at 21, but the Flyers responded with an 11-0 run to take the lead.

It was the final lead change of the night.

The Rams were plagued all night by turnovers. On the night the Rams turned the ball over 17 times that lead to 23 for the Flyers.

By the half, the Flyers were holding a 15 point advantage.

The second half didn't fair much better for VCU.

In the final 20 minutes, the Flyers shot 54% on the floor. Dayton also ended the night with 52% shooting from the floor, including 47% from range.

VCU shot 40% over and 18% from range on the evening.

Dayton also owned the glass, 40-22, with 18 of those rebounds coming on the offensive side. Flyers turned that into 14 second chance points.

Baldwin led the Rams with 12 points and 4 assist.

Mikeal Brown-Jones was the only Ram beside Baldwin to crack double-digits.

Brown-Jones ended the night tying a career-high with 10 points.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, February 5th, as they host the Dukes of Duquesne.

That game is set to tip at 4pm EST.
