VCU saw a double-digit lead slip away as Nevada completed a dramatic comeback to win 64-61 in the Charleston Classic on Friday night. Despite a strong first half and standout performances from graduate guards Zeb Jackson and Max Shulga, the Rams could not hold off the Wolfpack’s surge down the stretch.

Key Moments

The Rams led for nearly 28 minutes of the game, holding a 34-23 advantage at halftime and extending the lead to as many as 15 early in the second half. However, Nevada chipped away at the deficit, propelled by a 16-2 run midway through the half.

With two minutes remaining, VCU briefly regained the lead after a Zeb Jackson steal set up Joe Bamisile for a fast-break dunk. Max Shulga then sank a step-back jumper to give the Rams a three-point cushion, 61-58. However, Nevada’s Tre Coleman tied the game with a corner three, and Kobe Sanders delivered the blow with a three-pointer from the left corner with just five seconds left.

By the Numbers

  • Zeb Jackson led VCU with 18 points, hitting 4-of-9 from beyond the arc, while adding seven rebounds and four assists.
  • Max Shulga contributed 17 points, five rebounds, and four steals, shooting 50% from the field.
  • Joe Bamisile added 12 points and five boards.
VCU was outshot 47.7% to 39.2% from the field and struggled from deep in the second half, converting just 5-of-17 attempts. Additionally, the Wolfpack’s ability to capitalize on free throws late (15-of-26 overall) played a key role in the outcome.

Looking Ahead

The loss drops VCU to 4-2 on the season, while Nevada improves to 5-1. The Rams will aim to bounce back when they face Miami in Charleston at 12:30pm on ESPN+.
