VCU fights off hot-handed UNF, 95-85

In the first official game on the road to the Maui Invitational, VCU (2-0) outgunned North Florida, 95-85.

VCU Senior, Justin Tillman, posted a perfect 9-9 from the floor in the first half for 18 points in only 9 minutes of action. By the time the final buzzer rang, Tillman had scored 27 points on 13-17 shooting for the game. The senior also pulled down 8 rebounds.

VCU needed near perfection from the senior tonight as they ran into the red-hot 3-point shooting of North Florida. The Osprey's made an impressive 17-40 for 43% from long range.

JT Escobar lead the Osprey with 27 points on 7-11 (63%).

The Rams only managed to find one three-pointer before the half, and that came from Issac Vann to beat the halftime buzzer. The three point line was slightly more forgiving to the Rams in the second half as they shot 4-8 for 50% from deep.

Vann joined Tillman in the 8 rebound club tonight. The redshirt sophomore also put up 17 points and 4 assists in 28 minutes of action.

Jonathan Williams (11) and Khris Lane (17) would round out the four players who ended in double-digit scoring. Lane and Williams would account for 11 of the last 13 points for VCU—7 of those from the free throw line to ice the game for the home team.

Lane finished the game grabbing 7 rebounds, while Williams posted 8 assists.

Basketball returns to the EJ Wade Arena on Friday, November 17th as the Rams host UVA. Tip-off is set for 4pm.
