VCU opens A10 play with physical win over La Salle, 80-67

A dunk from Brandon Johns, Jr., put VCU (10-4; 1-0) on top for the first time with just 25 second left in the first half.

At two different points in the first half the Explorers pushed their lead out to 9 points. That last time coming just before the final media timeout of the first half.

Over the next 4:19, the Rams rattled off a 16-6 run—including a half-time buzzer beating triple from Zeb Jackson to give the Rams a lead which they wouldn't relinquish.

Jackson ended the night with 14 points on 60% shooting from the floor. VCU's bench accounted for 27 points for the Rams on the night.

Johns Jr. joined Jackson in double-digit scoring with 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Jalen DeLoach had a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with his 14 points for VCU.

The Explorers committed 18 turnovers on the evening resulting in 24 points for the Rams.

Ace Baldwin Jr, had four of VCU's eleven steals. The starting point guard for the Rams also had a team-high 19 points, and 6 assists.

This is the fifth win in as many games for the Rams.

VCU returns to action on Jan. 4th, 2023, as they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Dukes of Duquesne. That game is set to tip at 7pm ET.
