Due to an ongoing water shortage crisis in the city of Richmond, Wednesday's game against Fordham was played without spectators at the Siegel Center. Despite the unusual circumstances, the VCU Rams (12-4; 2-1) remained focused and delivered a strong performance to secure their eighth straight home victory, moving to 8-0 at the Siegel Center.

First Half: A Game of Runs

  • Fordham struck first, but VCU quickly answered with a 7-0 run.
  • VCU struggled to maintain momentum, turning the ball over six times as Fordham countered with a 7-0 run of their own.
  • Nine lead changes in a back-and-forth half ended with VCU clinging to a 24-23 lead.

Second Half: Rams Turn Up the Heat

  • VCU came out swinging with an 8-0 run to start the second half, capped by a flurry of defensive stops.
  • Fats Billups provided a pivotal momentum play, stealing the ball and draining a three-pointer to give VCU an 11-point lead.

Big Performances

  • Joe Bamisile led the charge with 18 points on a scorching 7-of-11 shooting (63.6%), adding 8 rebounds and a thunderous fast-break dunk to seal the game.
  • Max Shulga was the only other Ram in double digits, contributing 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
  • Luke Bamgboye was a force in the paint, tallying 8 points (4-of-5 shooting) and 7 rebounds in just 18 minutes of action.

Glass Domination

The Rams were monsters on the boards, out-rebounding Fordham 49-33, including 23 offensive rebounds. Those second chances turned into a massive 25-13 advantage in second-chance points, with Jack Clark leading VCU with 11 rebounds.

Shooting Struggles from Deep

While VCU shot a respectable 42% from the field (27-of-65), they struggled from long range, hitting just 5-of-26 (19%) from beyond the arc. Fortunately, their work in the paint (a 36-26 edge) and on the boards more than made up for it.

Next Up

VCU will return to action on Tuesday, January 14th as they take on the Billikens of Saint Louis. That game is set to tip at 7pm and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
