After handing out a beat down to Boston College in Brooklyn on Saturday, the Rams welcomed Stony Brook to the Stuart C. Siegel Center for the first ever meeting between the two schools. The 9-4 Seawolves out of the American East conference managed to hang with VCU in the first half but the Rams' full team effort allowed for a 81-63 win.

VCU aimed to make it 7 straight wins at home this season but would have trouble early with the team from New York. The Seawolves outshot the Rams in the first half, 52% to 41% but it was Junior Briante Weber who was able to go the length of the court and beat the buzzer at the half to give VCU a 1 point, 36-35 lead at the break.

In the second half, Stony Brook just couldn’t keep up with VCU. The Rams start the second half with a 12-0 run with Stony Brook unable to score in the first 6 and half minutes. From then, it was all over.

VCU had 5 players scoring in double digits on the night with Junior Treveon Graham topping them all with 20 points. Sophomore Melvin Johnson had 12, both seniors Juvonte Reddic and Rob Brandenberg dropped in 11 and Weber had a stand out night with 14 and almost converting the triple double in steals, 7, and assists, 9.

Stony Brook would have their way with the Rams on the boards as they would out rebound VCU 40-26. But you can count on two things, when Brandenberg scores 11 or more and the opponent turns it over more than 20 times, its a VCU win and tonight was no different.

The win moves VCU to 12-3 on the season as they move onto conference play and host George Mason University on Thursday January 9th at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
