Hot off the heels of a 88-53 exhibition win against Shippensburg, VCU head coach Mike Rhoades gave his first weekly press conference of the 2022-2023 season.

Coach Rhoades said VCU improved on both ends of the floor since their scrimmage against Villanova (where VCU was rumored to have lost 94-79). Coach said they put more emphasis on the defensive end and it showed significant improvement on Saturday night. Offensively, Rhoades says VCU is hard to guard as long as they share the ball and make the right play in the right moment.

With several new players on the roster this season, Rhoades said the new group "came off the bench and gave us some good juice, we're going need that all year long".

VCU will play Manhattan at the Siegel Center on Monday at 7pm ET in their official season opener. Manhattan, a team which was picked to finish 2nd in the MAAC, has recently been in the news for firing their head coach Steve Masiello just two weeks before the start of their season.
