Video: Full team effort puts VCU past GMU, 79-63[INSIDER]

After a week off from games, VCU hit the hardwood at the Siegel Center Saturday evening as they hosted George Mason University (13-9,7-1). Both teams, fresh and rested, battled hard but VCU walked away with winner, 79-63.

Don’t let the final score fool you. It was closer than that. There may have only been 4 lead changes but despite VCU’s effort on both ends, the Patriots would not go away.

Junior Issac Vann led all rams in scoring with 21 points. Senior Michael Gilmore and junior Marcus Evans both chipped in 11 points while sophomore Marcus Santos-Silva scored 10 points while grabbing 5 rebounds.

VCU shot 47% from the field, hitting 26-55 shots. The rams attempted 32 three pointers, only connecting on 11 of them. Michael Gilmore had 2 of them.

The rams held onto the ball. They only turned it over 11 times. George Mason turned it over 15 times.

The win moves VCU to 15-6(6-2) on the season. VCU will travel to Washington D.C. on Wednesday, February 6th and will play George Washington University. The game will be televised on MASN at 7pm.
