As if VCU’s last game against Dayton, last Friday, wasn’t big enough, the Rams welcomed crosstown rival, Richmond into the Siegel Center Wednesday night. once again, Ram nation got another entertaining game, that almost went wire to wire, this time, it took VCU 35 minutes before they really started to pull away in the 81-74 victory.
Junior Justin Tillman had another great game, leading all Rams in scoring with 18 points. Tillman also grabbed 9 rebounds in the win.
Three other Rams scored double digits on the night. Seniors Mo Alie-Cox and JeQuan Lewis both scored 13 and freshman Samir Doughty scored 16.
VCU’s defense could not contain Richmond’s ShawnDre’ Jones. The senior had 30 points.
VCU owns the series record between the two at 49 wins and 28 losses against the team from 8 miles up the road.
The win moves VCU to 17-5 on the season and 7-2 in conference play. They will travel up to New York as they play St. Bonaventure on Saturday, February 4th and 4pm. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
