VCU used one of their best defensive efforts of the season to rout George Washington, 72-48, extending the Rams winning streak to 12 games in impressive fashion.

The black and gold trailed 19-17 with 6:52 in the first half before going on a 12-2 run to take an 8-point lead into halftime.

GW pulled the game within four two minutes into the second half before the Rams kicked it into dominate mode, holding the Colonials to just four field goals for the rest of the game to cruise to victory.

The Rams held GW to just 26.9% shooting from the field including 5.9% from long range (1-17).

Coach Smart's squad kept GW's bigs from doing any damage in the paint, limiting stars Kevin Larsen and Patricio Garino to a combined 10 points on the night. The Rams out-rebounded GW by 11 and forced 16 Colonial turnovers.

The Rams didn't have their best shooting night, finishing 41.9% from the field and just 22.7% from deep, but did get yet another impressive offensive performance from freshman, Terry Larrier.

Larrier finished with a team-high 15 points in the win, connecting on four of his seven attempts in 22 minutes of action. Larrier added four rebounds, two assists and a steal for the Rams.

Sophomore guard JeQuan Lewis added 13 points in just 19 minutes for the Rams and led all players with a game-high three steals.

Mo Alie-Cox rounds out the group of double-digit scorers for VCU, finishing with 10 points on a perfect 4-4 shooting and 2-2 from the free throw stripe. Alie-Cox added eight rebounds, a block and a steal in his 22 minutes of action.

The win moves VCU to 17-3 on the season and a perfect 7-0 in conference play.

The Rams will look to extend that streak this Saturday in a home game against rival Richmond.
