Video: Rams bounce back, beat Iona 88-59 [INSIDER]

After a disappointing loss, to say the least, down in Norfolk Wednesday night against Old Dominion, the Siegel Center was packed on Saturday as VCU hoped to right the ship against Iona. Fortunately, the Rams got the win, 88-59.

The first half resembled the first 20 minutes against Old Dominion, VCU dominating. The difference on Saturday, VCU’s second half performance. It was the offensive performance that Coach Rhoades has hoped for a few days ago.

Junior Marcus Evans led all Rams in scoring with 19 points also grabbing 6 rebounds. Sophomore Marcus Santos-Silva was next up with 12 points while both junior Mike’L Simms and sophomore Corey Douglas added 11 points each.

VCU shot 28 of 66 from the field and hit 11 of 30 three pointers but it was turnovers that really were the difference. VCU turned the ball over just 8 times while Iona turned it over 23 times.

Depth also worked in favor for the Rams. Iona had three players reach 5 fouls and their bench only chipped in 11 points while the bench for the black and gold accounted for 33 of their 88 points.

The win moves VCU to 6-2 on the season. VCU will travel to Austin as the return of a home and home series with former VCU coach, current Texas head coach Shaka Smart. The game will be televised on ESPNU at 8pm on Wednesday, December 5th.
