The last time the Rams took to the court at the Stu, they had a field day with La Salle in a 38 point blow out. Everyone in the building was expecting a much tighter game when the Dayton Flyers rolled into town on Friday. They got exactly what they asked for but their Rams would eventually pull out the win, 73-68.
The fans at the Siegel Center got a tight game, as promised, in a match up that pitted the Atlantic 10’s #3 seed Rams against the #1 seed, Dayton.
VCU’s inside game stepped up when their shooting and perimeter play was lacking as junior Justin Tillman led all Rams in scoring with 18 points on the night. Right behind him was senior Hamdy Mohamed with 12.
Rebounds were crucial in the win. VCU grabbed 41 of them while the Flyers only could pull down 24. VCU converted the rebounds into 26 second chance points. Dayton only scored 8 points on the second try.
The win moves VCU to 16-5(6-2) on the season. VCU will host cross town rival, the Richmond Spiders on Wednesday, February 1st at 7pm. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
