VCU is most known nationally for two things: basketball and art. The Rams hoops team became a household name with their surprising 2011 Final 4 run and subsequent success to follow, while Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Fine Arts is the top-ranked public arts school in the country.
Recently, thanks to VCU Painting & Printmaking professor, Ron Johnson, a former Ohio State baseball player and draftee of the Cincinnati Reds, those two worlds have begun to collide with his new course: Art and Athletics.
We sat down with Johnson, VCU men's basketball players Johnny Williams, Justin Tillman and Issac Vann as well as student manager Tyrone Green to talk about their connections to the class and their experience mixing art and athletics.
