The Rams headed up to Brooklyn as the #2 seed in the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament. VCU faced off against UMASS after the Minutemen knocked off Rhode Island on Thursday. Last time these two teams met, on February 11 in Massachusetts, the Rams fell just short in a shocker. VCU had that loss on its mind and were looking for revenge and got it with a resounding 85-70 win.

Senior Melvin Johnson, a native of Bronx, NY, played in front of his home town and would shine in the match up. Johnson would lead VCU in scoring with 19 on the night.

The game saw 4 players score in double digits in the win. In addition to Johnson, Junior Jequan Lewis, Senior Korey Billbury and Sophomore Justin Tillman would chip in 16, 12, 10, respectively.

Despite getting the win and maintaining a large lead, the Rams did not shoot the ball well. They would end up shooting 40.3 % on the night, going 29-72 from the field. Their game behind the arc was just not there. VCU fired 16 three pointers but would only hit 1 of them. Good thing, UMASS would only go 3 of 14 from deep also.

The story on the boards was another story as the Rams out rebounded the Minutemen 49 to 31.

VCU advances to the semifinals and will play the winner of St. Bonaventure versus Davidson and will play on Saturday at 4pm.
