VCU overcame a cold shooting first half to overtake Richmond at the Robins Center tonight, 56-50.

The Rams struggled to hit shots in the first half and were held to just 22 points but managed to keep the deficit within four points heading into the locker room.

VCU came out flat in the second half, hitting just one field goal over the first five minutes and 37 second but were able to erase and 11-point Spider lead over the next 4:22 to tie the game at 40. From there the Rams took the lead and never looked back and later watched leading scorer, Treveon Graham, hit two clutch free throws to extend VCU's lead to 4 with just six second remaining, thus sealing the win for the black and gold.

Graham finished with a double-double that included a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Rob Brandenberg was the only other Ram to finish in double figures, scoring nine of his 11 points in the second.

Sophomore Melvin Johnson posted six second half points that include two timely three-pointers. Johnson finished with nine points, three rebounds and a team-high (tied with Treveon) four assists.

The Rams shot just 38.5% from the field on the night but held UofR to an even worse 31.6% that included a 5-20 three-point evening from the Spiders.

The win moves VCU to 23-7 on the season and 11-4 in conference play, currently putting them at third in the league standings due to a head-to-head loss at St. Joseph's which at 11-4 own the tie-breaker at this point.

The Rams have a short turnaround as they return to the Siegel Center Saturday night to take on St. Bonaventure at 7PM. The Game is an official "white out" and VCU will be celebrating senior night as they thank seniors Rob Brandenberg and Juvonte Reddic for four incredible years at VCU.

(Editor's note: notice the noise level when VCU scores in this "away" game. Well done, Ram Nation)
