After a tough loss at Davidson on Saturday, the Rams were back at home Wednesday evening as they welcomed former VCU coach Anthony Grant and the Dayton Flyers. The 2nd home conference game was a battle from start to finish that ended with Rams on top 76-71.
Junior Marcus Evans led all scorers with 17 points and no three points were bigger than the shot he hit to put the Rams ahead by as many points with just about a minute to go.
Junior De’Riante Jenkins scored 13 points and hit am important 3 that tied it up at 63 all with just over 7 minutes left.
Sophomore Sean Mobley and junior Issac Vann both chipped in 13 points. Mobley grabbed 4 rebounds and Vann collected 7 boards.
VCU shot 47% from three point land, hitting 9 of 19 shots. The Rams shot 46% from the field, 27-59.
The win moves the Rams to 12-5 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. VCU will host UMASS on Saturday, January 19th at 6:30pm. The game will be televised on NBC Sports Network.
