Ram fans got their first taste of Havoc 5.0 tonight as VCU hosted a Black versus Gold scrimmage that pit Ram v Ram in a fast-paced rare October sampling of college hoops.

VCU faithful waited in the rain in a line that stretched around the block, then packed the half of the Siegel Center made available for the game, watching team Gold wreak a small bit of havoc on the Black team in the 72-56 win.

Sophomore Melvin Johnson led all players with 25 points on 10-19 shooting, including a Troy Daniels-like 5-of-7 from long range. Newcomer Terrance Shannon was equally as impressive, exciting Ram fans with 16 points and seven rebounds in his 26 minutes for the Gold. Treveon Graham chipped in a workmanlike 15 points on 5-0f-10 shooting and added a game-high 10 rebounds on the night.

Freshman JeQuan Lewis led the Black team with 13 points in his first performance in front of a live crowd at the Siegel Center. Lewis was 3-5 from long range and hit four of his seven attempts on the evening. Rob Brandenberg and Juvonte Reddic rounded out the list of double-digit scorers for team Black, both going 5-9 from the field with Reddic chipping in 8 rebounds as well in his 25 minutes.

Steals and turnovers were abundant in the game, with the Gold team swiping 10 to team Black's 9 steals. Turnovers proved to be too much to overcome for the Black team, surrendering the ball 19 times in the loss.

Briante Weber got a dress rehearsal for his likely roll as starting point guard for VCU. The junior dropped a game high eight assists and added six points and six assists while going 3-5 from the field. Freshman Jairus Lyles added six assists for the gold team and added an impressive eight points and three steals in his 21 minutes off the bench.
