Video: VCU comes from behind to advance to A10 Semis; beat GMU 71-60 [INSIDER]

VCU opened up their Atlantic 10 Tournament with a quarterfinal match up against George Mason University. This marked the 3rd time the teams met this season, VCU owning the first two games. George Mason beat Fordham on Thursday in order to play VCU on Friday. The Rams had to battle their way back to get the 71-60 win to advance.

Freshman De’Riante Jenkins saw the most minutes on the court since his recent return from injury and it was just in time. Jenkins led all Rams in scoring with 15 points. Senior JeQuan Lewis would be right behind with 13 points while both Freshman Samir Doughty and Senior Jordan Burgess chipped in 10 each.

GMU Senior Marquis Moore grabbed an impressive 17 rebounds in the Patriots losing effort. Both teams would end the game with 36 rebounds each.

George Mason turned the ball over 14 times to VCU’s 10. Depth was key for the Rams as their bench poured in 33 points while GMU’s scored just 11.

The Patriots shooting was never spectacular but their second half was especially rough as they shot just 9-26 form the field. VCU shot 12-28 in the second half and 26-56 in the game.

VCU advances to the Atlantic 10 semi-finals and will play the winner of University of Richmond versus George Washington University. The game will be at 3:30pm on CBS Sports Network.
