It was everything you wanted in a crosstown rivalry game, and in the end VCU (22-5, 12-2 A10) came away with the 84-73 victory.
The win also completes a regular season sweep for VCU of crosstown rivals, University of Richmond
Jonathan Williams tallied 9 of his 15 points in the first half coming off the bench. He also added 4 assists.
The VCU bench was pivotal in taking a one point lead into the locker room for the Rams scoring 23 of their 36 points.
The Rams also relied heavily on their ability to score points in the paint with 20 in the first half. They would duplicate that performance in the second half, closing with 40 points in the paint.
Despite turning the ball over 17 times, VCU was able to build a lead behind well timed three pointers. Overall the Rams shot 7-14 for 50% from deep.
Three of those three pointers came from freshman, Malik Crowfield. He ended the night with 9 points on 3-5 shooting behind the arc.
For his third game in a row, JeQuan Lewis led the Rams to victory as the high-scorer. Lewis would lead the Rams in all three categories with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
The senior has scored 77 points in the last three games combined.
