The Rams welcomed Butler to their first-ever trip to the Siegel Center, then proceeded to throttle them from start to finish, forcing 23 turnovers while hitting 43.5% of their threes in the 84-52 nationally televised rout.
VCU held star guard Rotnie Clarke, the A-10's fourth leading scorer (17ppg), to just five points off 2-of-8 shooting on the evening.
VCU's trigger man, Troy Daniels, could not be contained however. Daniels posted a game-high 20 points, hitting four of his eight attempts from long range, three coming in the first half alone.
Fellow senior, Darius Theus, posted a nearly perfect game as well. The point guard dished out nine assists to just two turnovers and grabbed five steals to zero fouls in just 24 minutes of play.
Six Rams had at least two steals. VCU finished with 17 total.
VCU's steals leader, Briante Weber, had two of those, but was more than just his usual defensive self, scoring 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field.
Usual suspect Treveon Graham and Juvonte Reddic round out the list of double-digit scorers at 11 a piece.
The win was a big one for VCU, not just in scoring margin, but also in clinching VCU a first-round Atlantic 10 tournament bye less than two weeks from today (March 14-17 in Brooklyn, NY).
VCU (23-6, 11-3) will take on rival Richmond (17-12, 7-7) in a senior night tip, Wednesday, March 6th at 8PM at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
