Video: VCU escapes Lynchburg with a win, beats Flames 64-59[INSIDER]

The Rams traveled to Lynchburg for their first road game of the season to face the Liberty Flames. In their first trip to Lynchburg since the ’95-’96 season, VCU was able to escape down 64 East after barely getting past the Flames to get their 2nd win on the season, 64-59.

The Flames got out to an early lead against a Justin Tillman-less VCU squad. Liberty led by as many as 9 in the first half but that would be their biggest lead. Senior JeQuan Lewis would hit the straight on three as time expired in the first half to give VCU the lead going into halftime, 34-31.

After leading by 12 with just over 6 minutes remaining, VCU’s lead started to slip. Liberty cut their lead to just 3 points with 22 seconds left.

Lewis led all Rams in scoring with 13 points on the night. Senior Mo Alie-Cox was next up with 12 points and senior Jordan Burgess scored 9 points on the night. Burgess led the team with rebounds, grabbing 8 misses.

Tillman was in a boot after suffering an injury after playing UNC Asheville last week but is listed as day-to-day.

VCU will host Binghamton on Friday, November 18th at 7pm.
