Video: VCU forces Hofstra to Overtime; win 69-67[INSIDER]

After an unfortunate overtime loss against St. John’s in Brooklyn on Tuesday, VCU enjoyed the warm reception from the fans at the Siegel Center on the cold, rainy Saturday. Former CAA conference mate, Hofstra would join them for the first time since the 2011-2012 season. It took overtime again but this time, the Rams would get the win, 69-67.

In the first half it was all black and gold. The Rams’ largest lead was 15 points right before the half but at the start of the second, Hofstra came out gunning behind their leading scoring senior Justin Wright-Foreman who ended the night one point shy of his 28 ppg average, with 27 points.

Junior De’Riante Jenkins led all Rams in scoring with 19 points on the win. Jenkins connected on 5 of 11 three pointers. Junior Issac Vann chipped in 16 points, 3 assists and 4 steals in the contest.

Junior Marcus Evans, once again, proved to be crucial down the stretch defensively and offensively. Tied at 67 each with under 30 seconds to go in overtime, Evans drives to the basket, forced to hit a fading leaner that pushed VCU ahead by 2 and would clinch the game.

The last time VCU started the season by winning its first 4 games was the 1993-1994 season, VCU started 5-0 that year.

Tonight’s game marked the 121st consecutive home sellout for VCU.

The win moves the Rams to 5-1 on the season. VCU will travel to Norfolk on Wednesday, November 28th and will play against Old Dominion University at 7:00pm. The game will be televised on MASN.
