VCU did what VCU does, shutting down the Tide's offense with a suffocating defense that allowed just two Alabama points in the first 10:44 of play, not allowing a single field goal until there was just 9:16 tics left in the first half.

VCU's 15-point halftime lead was more than enough, as the Rams answered every Bama challenge throughout the remainder of the contest, extending their lead to 25 points with 10:30 to play.

Four players posted double-digits for VCU, including freshman Melvin Johnson who hit three of his four long range attempts for all of his 12 points on the night.

DJ Haley was also huge in the win (literally).

The California native posted season-highs in minutes (16), points (6) and rebounds (6), and added 2 blocks for VCU in reserve action, sparking the crowd and filling in admirably for a Juvonte Reddic who struggled to find his rhythm after getting in foul trouble early.

The win was VCU's fourth in as many games, moving the Rams to 7-3 on the season.

VCU will have two days to enjoy this one while preparing for a 7PM Tuesday night tip against former Sunbelt rival Western Kentucky at the Siegel Center.
