VCU rode their 12 game win streak into Brooklyn, NY for the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The black and gold faced Rhode Island on Friday at Noon after URI beat La Salle the day before. URI beat VCU the last two years in the Atlantic 10. After losing starting point guard and Atlantic 10 player of the year, junior Marcus Evans in the first half to injry, this year would be no different as Rhode Island knocks off VCU, 75-70.
With Evans out, Coach Rhoades needed players to step up. Sophomore Marcus Santos-Silva took action.
Santos-Silva ended the game with 26 points and 22 rebounds. Junior De’Riante Jenkins was next ins coring with 13 points, also grabbing 4 rebounds.
VCU shot 40% from the field, connecting on 23 of 58 attempts.
A team that prides itself on its depth, VCU’s bench was outscored 25-18.
Early reports indicate that Evans experienced a hyper-extended knee and is day to day.
VCU will sit and wait until the NCAA Tournament bracket is revealed Sunday evening.
