VCU was looking to rebound after a shakey come from behind win against William & Mary.
The 86 - 80 win against VMI, gives the Rams their 14th consecutive win. This win marks the longest in school history.
VMI (Big South Conference) got things going early taking the the Rams for a ride right out of the gate scoring on several three pointers. It took the Rams the first 10 minutes to get their bearings offensively in a first half that saw 5 lead changes.
VCU continuted to see aggresive play from Senior Jamie Skeen as he dropped in 19 points and led the Rams in scoring, 9 of those in the first half alone, all in the paint & line.
Rams havoc style of defense and full court pressure also counted for 10 steals in the first half against the Keydets 3 and out rebounded VMI 23-19 at the break, 42 - 36 on the night.
Sophomore Troy Daniels took matters into his own hands and knocked down 4 of 5 from three point land in the first half to help the Rams extend their lead to 11 at halftime.
The Keydets would not back down and would cut that VCU lead to within the first five minutes of the 2nd half.
Senior Brandon Rozzell combated a Keydet run with 7 straight points for the Rams and ended shooting 8-15 on the night.
VCU got a taste of their own medicine. Usually implementing full court pressure, the Keydets showed the Rams how hard it can be to overcome the pressure forcing 13 VCU turnovers in the game.
Keith Gabriel and Austin Kenon led the Keydets with 17 points in the quick paced scoring frenzy at The Stu. The Keydets take on Longwood next while the Rams will travel to the West End to take on a hot Richmond Spiders team.
