Video: VCU's final push can't move them past Rams; lose to Rhode Island 81-68 [INSIDER]

After two wins on the road, VCU returned to the Siegel Center Friday evening to face #22 Rhode Island. The Danny Hurley coached Rams came into the Stu as the top seeded in the conference. After a strong start in the first half, VCU was unable to mount the final comeback in the 81-68 loss.

Senior Justin Tillman led all VCU players in scoring with 22 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. This was the first game in the last 17 that Tillman was unable to get double digits in scoring as well as rebounding.

Freshman Sean Mobley led the charge for the Rams in the first half. After making another appearance int he starting line up the Florida native bested his career high in the first half alone scoring 15 points before the break. Unfortunately, Mobley did not score in the second half.

Tillman and Mobley were the only two VCU Rams to score double digits.

Rhode Island owned VCU in the paint, grabbing 47 rebounds to VCU’s 31 and getting 26 second chance points to the home team’s 6.

The loss moves VCU to 14-9 (6-4) on the season. The Rams will travel down the road to face University of Richmond on Wednesday, February 7th at 9pm.
