VCU's all-time steals leader, Briante Weber, will look to defend his Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year award next season, but could he defend NFL wide receivers?

Weber was recently named by NFL.com's Bryan Fischer as one of his 10 college athletes that could be a great football player (<a title="click to read full article" href="http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000354081/article/ten-college-athletes-that-could-make-great-football-players?campaign=Twitter_writers_fischer">click to read full article</a>).

He was one of two basketball players on the list, joining Michigan State 6'6 255-pound forward, Branden Dawson.

Fischer mentioned Weber's size/length, quickness, vertical jump and quick hands that allowed him steal the basketball so often, wondering whether or not that combination could translate into a gig as an NFL cornerback.

NFL scouts have actually seen Weber in action at the Siegel Center. Last season at least one scout attended a VCU game to watch freshman forward, Mo Alie-Cox (6'6 250).

If basketball doesn't work out for either defensive standout, either could become the first ex-Ram since Jesse Pellot-Rosa to work out for an NBA team.
