Rhode Island called timeout after hitting two free throws to take a 54-53 lead with only 4.2 seconds left.

VCU (19-7; 10-3 A10) and Mike Rhoades used that time to draw up the game winning play.

David Shriver inbounded the ball to Zeb Jackson just shy of the half court line.

Jackson, with Sebastian Thomas guarding him, dribbled through the logo at half court and just inside the three point line in front of the VCU bench where he was picked up by the double team of Malik Martin and Thomas.

Driving right, and with an off-balance jumper from his left hand with only nine-tenths of a second on the clock, Jackson buried the buzzer beater to secure the 55-54 win for the visiting Rams.

Jackson ended the night with 9 points on 80% shooting (4-5) from the floor.

His fellow former-Michigan team mate, Brandon Johns Jr. led the Rams with 17 points and 5 rebounds.

While VCU shot 41% from the floor overall, the continued to struggle from range connecting on only one of their 13 attempts on the evening.

Rhode Island turned the ball over 17 times on the night which turned into 17 points for VCU.

This is the only meeting by these Ram teams in the 2022-2023 regular season.

VCU is now 6-1 on the road in conference play with their only loss dating back to Jan. 4th—their first conference game of the season.

The win tonight also helps VCU to retain sole possession of first place in the A10.

The VCU Rams will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18th as they host the Fordham Rams. That game is set to tip at 2:30pm and will be broadcast on the USA Network.
