And lots of basketball fans don't want to pay $150 a month to Comcast for the pleasure to stream ESPN 3 games or find ESPNews. $5/month for ESPN+ has an incredibly lower bar to access than the bulk of what the AAC requires.

Oh, and outside of the fact that Temple's game against Drexel wasn't broadcast anywhere, and half of the Owls' games were broadcast online only via ESPN3, you really didn't mischaracterize Temple's TV coverage too badly.
Because the ability to monitor actual viewership in this day and age is irrevocably flawed and advertisers will grow tired of getting swindled by networks. The same reckoning will come for online advertising, too.
