The irony is that he really didn’t want to leave. Maya and some coaching friends convinced him it was a great situation at the right time for him to make the move.
I understand that Maya wanted out of Richmond. Is that true?

Let me be clear, I have never spoken to either Maya or Shaka about it. However, it has been implied to me that she was open for a change and felt like Austin was a great city to live and raise their daughter.

I think it is crazy that with all those NBA players, the Big12 conference schedule, and Texas’ resources, that Shaka hasn’t won a single NCAA game with Texas yet.

I left Richmond for Austin the same time they did. I moved back a year later and brought my future wife with me. I will always love Austin, but IMO Richmond is a better city because it has all the culture of Austin without the awful (cannot be overstated) gridlock.
