I think there’s plenty of those. Your anger seems super intense for a game. Let the season play out because things can’t change now, and then make your own personal decisions based on what happens. It’s completely irrational for anyone to expect any mid-season coaching changes. Not sure what people want to see today that will make them satisfied.

Things can change now, and need to change. Good coaching staffs make in-season adjustments. Adjust your strategy, adjust your roles and responsibilities. There's a lot Coach Rhoades can do during the season short of firing someone.

I would put forward that it’s not one game, but rather this game signifying all the issues along the way.

1. This is about 5 and a half seasons, not a game
2. Of course, we aren’t changing midseason and probably not for a year or two minimum. But it’s time to start talking about this because it will take a year or two of the talk to get some people to even contemplate it.

I for one would love to see some people who are there asking questions in the post game or mid-week press conferences actually call out some of the crap that we are all seeing. All the questions that are ever asked are such softball questions are are easily brushed off by standard coaching rhetoric. I would love for whoever is in that press room to ask some pointed, maybe even controversial questions about what the heck is going on and what has been going on for the past few years. How this has become a consistent thread across Mike Rhoades led teams. I'm not saying that would solve the problem but it would at least get the point across that we aren't happy and we aren't stupid either. Rhoades' inflated record is a smokescreen for some real issues going on and I wish these would be brought up and I wish he would be held accountable to answer for these issues. It frustrates me watching these interviews and listening to the same answers being given to the same ole questions. I agree, no amount of frustration and anger will change what has happened and in the grand scheme of a 32+ game season we've only lost 4 games thus far, but the ongoing trend and lack of accountability and avoidance of addressing the issues are what, in my opinion, make this so frustrating.

jacksonville up 32 spots to 65 in NET

drum roll
vcu down 27 spots to 144 in NET
Yesterday at this time we were talking about how horrible it was to be outside of the top 100.
Now we are concerned about staying in the top 150.

Seriously, have we ever dropped 27 spots overnight before? That's ridiculous!

I figured you'd eventually get to your pet issue regarding buy games.

It is an issue that concerns me because it is so unfair and taints overall records ... first time I ever gave it a thought was in a long-ago RMC at Virginia game .... RMC was accused of "athletic prostitution" by a major newspaper in Virginia .... I'd like to see statistics on which schools have the most "buy games" in one season, and over a stretch of years. As long as VCU can average 7,000 plus for a game against anyone, it's not likely to change much. The Howard game on Sunday could be a serious attendance tester.

Which is why nobody just looks at win totals.

But many times fans don't scrutinize the record book closely enough ... when VCU hired Sonny Smith, many celebrated .... I checked his Auburn record and didn't like what I saw .... 173-154 overall (not too bad), but a pitiful 84-114 in SEC. I knew the Black & Gold was in trouble. That said, VCU coaches have nationally prominent conference as well as overall records. Since Smith/McCarthy VCU has excelled in just about every area you can point to. Still, I get a bit worn out with the "buy games."

Eliminate buy games because of what fans think? Come on now.

The A10 needs to figure something out. It’s been on a continuous slide.
The A10's problems are no small part of our scheduing problems. Of course the P6 are the bigger source.
We are a little too good to get good games and not bad enough to get them.
Maybe Bernadette IS working on that by drifting us down the foodchain ? Hmmmmm...

Yes, of course, but that’s not what most of these people are saying. They want people fired now, and that’s dumb.

I would put forward that it’s not one game, but rather this game signifying all the issues along the way.

No, I meant this is college basketball, and college basketball is just a game. As fans, we should be loyal to our school and association with a program, not just during massive success. Part of being a fan is enjoying the highs after enduring the lows. Are some things disappointing? Absolutely. But people act like we aren’t a midmajor. It’s incredibly hard for programs like ours to maintain the success we have in the last decade.

I’m not saying we can’t continue to be successful, but acting like a program won’t have troubles and dips, highs and lows, in the type of position we are in and enduring changes to the game and entire system like there have been in the past few years….it’s just irrational to me, personally.

I acknowledge frustrating trends, but I’m just a fan, and I can’t do a better job. All of our coaches have had flaws. There are things Rhoades is responsible for and things he’s not. We all asked for consistency from a coach and devotion to a program, but then we complain when unending hardships and factors end in mediocre (not even awful) seasons. No one wants mediocrity, so I get it, but I think we’re in a little of the “low” that makes the highs so good.

If you don’t want to donate or waste money on mediocrity, then don’t! But don’t claim loyalty to the program later. It’s just icky to me that we ask a coach to remain loyal to us and then don’t provide the same loyalty to a program when things get hard. Rhoades isn’t being malicious in his choices. We don’t see all things behind the scenes. The indignation and cruelty just don’t help the culture. This board is more embarrassing than the bad games sometimes.

Fair enough, and I can’t speak for others, but my loyalty to the program drives me to care and ask for accountability, and to speak up when things need correction.

Who’s asking for loyalty from Rhoades? The guy makes about $1.5 million a year. He isn’t coaching the team out loyalty or altruism. He’s somehow managed to get 2 raises in his first 5 years as coach. If he or any other coach does well, gets offers from other programs, and decides to listen to those offers and leave, then good for him. We’ve lived through that before and we’ve come out well on the other side… sometimes better.

But it’s a two way street. If he’s not doing well, then we don’t owe him any loyalty either. This isn’t just a game. It’s also a business. The ROI on his contract has not been good and that needs to change very quickly. In this new age of NIL and the transfer portal, things can change very quickly in either a positive or negative way. This program has lost of lot of its shine over the last 5 years and could tumble really fast if we’re not careful. And rebuilding to what we had will be a lot harder than it was to lose it.
