No, I meant this is college basketball, and college basketball is just a game. As fans, we should be loyal to our school and association with a program, not just during massive success. Part of being a fan is enjoying the highs after enduring the lows. Are some things disappointing? Absolutely. But people act like we aren’t a midmajor. It’s incredibly hard for programs like ours to maintain the success we have in the last decade.
I’m not saying we can’t continue to be successful, but acting like a program won’t have troubles and dips, highs and lows, in the type of position we are in and enduring changes to the game and entire system like there have been in the past few years….it’s just irrational to me, personally.
I acknowledge frustrating trends, but I’m just a fan, and I can’t do a better job. All of our coaches have had flaws. There are things Rhoades is responsible for and things he’s not. We all asked for consistency from a coach and devotion to a program, but then we complain when unending hardships and factors end in mediocre (not even awful) seasons. No one wants mediocrity, so I get it, but I think we’re in a little of the “low” that makes the highs so good.
If you don’t want to donate or waste money on mediocrity, then don’t! But don’t claim loyalty to the program later. It’s just icky to me that we ask a coach to remain loyal to us and then don’t provide the same loyalty to a program when things get hard. Rhoades isn’t being malicious in his choices. We don’t see all things behind the scenes. The indignation and cruelty just don’t help the culture. This board is more embarrassing than the bad games sometimes.
