Rick, I have seen them play on TV at least 5 times this year. I agree.Careful what you wish for. I was at the MU game when they beat then #6 UCONN. I want no part of that team.

Then you havent seen this team. They crushed Baylor, beat UConn after being down and having extreme trouble with the 7 foot freshman, and beat Providence.I've seen enough Shaka Smart teams that my preference would be to play him in the first round.
Yep. If we have to play him, play him early.
It always amazes me how some in our fan base seem to hint that SS isnt a good HC. Maybe its the same folks who want to fire Mike at this stage of the season.I've seen enough Shaka Smart teams that my preference would be to play him in the first round.
71 +1 and Dayton 73 +2 . Saint L 89 -3
I guess that's a product of playing 10 Q1 games. Of course, they lost 9 of them...And P5 Washington State sits 1 spot behind us with their gleaming 9-13 record. 🤮

Look, SS has been at Marquette 2 years and he took a mediocre team last year to the Dance yeah they lost but they were on the back end and barely got in. The guy before him only had two winning conference records in 7 years. His total win percentage in conference was less than 47%.
Marshall dropped from 66 to 76 based on a double-overtime, 4 point loss to ULM. ULM jumps from 98 to 88. NET makes my head hurt.71 +1 and Dayton 73 +2 . Saint L 89 -3
You might want to lighten up. I didn't say "Out of every team in America, the singular team I would wish upon a star for my alma mater to face is the University of Marquette Golden Eagles, because they are coached by Shaka Smart, whom I hate," I said if we have to play them I'd rather play them early. It always amazes me how some in our fan base seem to hint that SS isnt a good HC. MU was 31-26 overall the two years prior to SS arrival and yet he got them in the dance his first year with a make shift squad, and now this year his second, a year after he lost hist top 2 players, and 4 of his top 7 to include scorers and rebounders he has his team at #16 and rising, yet YOU think its a safe bet to play his team? Come on man.
What's ironic the same people that continue to throw shade on SS and his ability are the same people who were hurt when he left, and the same people who compare Mike unfavorable to what SS did here.
The disrespect has got to stop. The guy can coach. He is arguably the best HC we have ever had here (although JD, Grant, and Dana Kirk might be in the argument). He certainly was the best personality this University has ever had. We just all need to accept the guy left and is good at what he does.
Im pretty sure you would be one of a handful of people and certainly none of those would be basketball professionals who would state they want to face MU in the NCAA Tournament.

Shaka was great here and left the program in a better place than he found it. He would've been my guy for life had he stayed. He did not and I wish him well. But when it comes to basketball, for me it's VCU or nobody, and now he's just another head coach of a team I want to beat if we have to play them.
By the way, consider the contrapositive - the only time Shaka's made it out of the first weekend he went to the Final Four. Seems to me it's best to catch a coach with that track record early with little time to prep rather than give him a chance to get on a roll. That's what I meant.
And for the record, if you think I'm part of the crowd that's been clamoring for Mike to be fired then you have really got the wrong end of the stick.
Another NET ranking that is just hard to figure out.And P5 Washington State sits 1 spot behind us with their gleaming 9-13 record. 🤮
Works for me, too.I'd rather not play him at all. If we did, we would give it our best. Maybe we'd win, maybe not. But I sat there and saw flashes of Havoc of old. He has that team believing in that system. And I don't think it is full blown Havoc like we saw, but he seems to be working toward it.
So no, I don't wnat to play him in the first round. Just like I don't want to play a dozen other teams. To get to the second round, you have to win the first round. I want to play little Sisters of The Poor who got in on a AQ in the Nobody Cares Conference.
I do, in the Natty.I don't want to play Shaka at all, lol. He's got Marquette rolling.
