All of these rankings are relatively meaningless in the first week of December. They can change quickly. Look at some of the schools in the top 50. There is almost zero chance they stay in the top 100, let alone the top 50. Sam Houston State is #7; doubt they stay in the top 100 by season's end. FAU, JMU, etc.

As for the A-10, as I said last week, SLU is the only team I'm worried about and impressed by. UMass, Duquesne, Fordham all have nice gaudy records and some of the worst SOS you'll see in the league. In fact, using the updated NET non-conference SOS, only SLU and VCU have a ranking under 200!! SLU is 65 and VCU is 110. It is important to point out these numbers mean little now and will change a lot over the next few weeks. Regardless, it sure seems like the league as a whole needs to schedule better when they can. Does the A-10 still have those scheduling requirements for the league?

Lots of basketball left to play.

Though rankings aren't finite right now, they do have some meaning.
It'll take multiple wins in a row for Dayton or Davidson to dig out of their current rankings.

I do agree that Saint Louis is the only A10 team that has DEFINITELY looked better than VCU.
UMass (outside top 100 in both O and D in KP), Duquesne (209 KP defense), and Fordham (239 KP offense) have won their games and that is a good thing, but some of their metrics are still iffy.

True, but I think most of us realize that the A-10 ain't what it used to be. The conference would be fortunate to match peak CAA this season. Which is why I think the early season panic over our performance thus far is justified.

I agree completely that the A-10 hasn't recaptured where it was in the first year or so we were a member. No one could really argue otherwise.

Do you know if the A-10 still has the scheduling criteria in place that it did when we joined?

With the schedule UMass, Duquesne, and Fordham have played, they should have good looking metrics.

I'm assuming it does. Not sure what enforcement looks like.

Based on some of the OOC schedules I’ve seen over the last couple of years (looking at you Fordham, Duquesne, GW, and a couple of others) it sure doesn’t seem like Bernadette and crew are enforcing the rule, if it still exists.

Thank you for the information. Do they even use the RPI anymore?
The RPI is still calculated but it isn’t actually used for anything anymore. Pretty much every application for the RPI has been replaced with the NET.

The scheduling guidelines as of 2018 are on page 18 of the above. It takes years of non-compliance for any real sanctions to happen.
Thank you for posting this information. Good to see what the goals are for the league. I wonder how the switch from RPI to NET has impacted this, if at all. One would think that the conference understands how difficult in can be for some of us to get quality games.

So, in our case, how do they enfornce the rule, if we can't get teams to play us? I guess the early season tournaments help.
Those tournaments and games against good mid-majors and virtually any P5 school (Vandy, for example) are helpful. I would think this is another reason Mike and Martelli try to focus on teams from lower leagues who are picked near the top of that league. Example would be Jacksonville tomorrow night; they were picked 2nd in the ASun preseason poll.

Maybe so but I’ll be curious how many attend tomorrow VS how many would attend say an ODU at the Stu game? If we’re going to fill our OOC schedule with average teams why don’t we play teams fans have a basic level of interest watching? Hats off to UVA, who right now is playing JMU.
