I'm still on this hill alone, but I don't understand why he'd be the starting PG. He played SG at USU and we have two other guys on the team in Zeb and Nelson who have played a lot more PG. One of them (Nelson) doesn't really play another position. You have your sources and I'm not going to definitively say they're wrong. I'm just going to say I don't get it.

Zeb came up in HS/AAU as a combo guard and giving him minutes at the 2 will allow him to thrive.

If you saw him live you would get it. I went to a practice. He is a great option for this team. Tough guard that distributes well. Zeb and Nelson will also play point and Odom will have the option to use any of the three to bring it up and start the offense. He preaches pushing the ball up and passing so there will not be much a stall to set up the offense.

yes, because we may be short handed we still have options. Winning two games in the NCAA Tournament is my focal point.

It just seems to me that this is a plan that leads to Nelson sitting on the bench a lot, since (to my knowledge at least) he only plays PG. I don't hate the idea of Shulga starting at PG and Zeb at SG, but that could lead to Nelson only getting 10 minutes per game, while Shulga or Zeb play all 40 minutes. If Nelson starts at PG and Shulga at SG, then Zeb can spell each of them, leading to all three getting 20-30 minutes.

Obviously no one is guaranteed minutes, and maybe Odom has determined that Shulga is just THAT MUCH BETTER than Nelson.

Nelson will gets lots of time. Seems like you are going with a narrative of your own. Odom does not think that he is THAT MUCH BETTER. Shulga will be a good guard and Nelson is gonna help this team. They will both play point guard.

I'm not making up a narrative. I'm just trying to figure out the decision. So, I guess they're looking at Zeb as primarily a shooting guard who can act as the third string PG?

Read what I wrote above. Any of the three can act as point guards. My guess is that Zeb will play the 2 guard. Shulga can play point or the 2 guard. Nelson will play point. I think Shulga will start at guard is all I am saying. You disagree I see. It is all good. We will find out soon.

Heck, Nelson and Max could even end up playing together in spots. We just don't know really It's all speculation, but if Max is starting at the point, that doesn't mean he'll play the position exclusively.

As I said, I don't doubt your information and I don't disagree. It's just information I'm trying to understand because, to me, it doesn't make a lot of sense. But, Odom and his staff know a lot more about the players and basketball in general than I do. Lots and lots of people do.
