Players 2023-24 Roster Thread

As I said, I don't doubt your information and I don't disagree. It's just information I'm trying to understand because, to me, it doesn't make a lot of sense. But, Odom and his staff know a lot more about the players and basketball in general than I do. Lots and lots of people do.
Let me try this. What makes sense to you? Playing Nelson at point and having Shulga at two guard with Zeb playing as well or coming off the bench? He could easily go three guards and a wing with Bairstow and a center like Rose or have Lawal play the 5. He has many options even with an 11 man rotation.

Sounds like a fun lineup. Dunk-tastic

Is there any other way to add to the roster now that school has started back up? If not, we can roll with what he have.
Go Rams!

What you describe regarding Nelson/Shulga/Zeb is the lineup that makes the most sense to my little brain. Nelson plays 25ish minutes at PG, Shulga plays 30-35 minutes at SG, and Zeb picks up 25ish minutes backing them both us at PG and SG. Basically it's a three-man rotation, with Shulga getting more minutes than the other two, and none of them being worn down by playing 40 minutes per game. Again, though, I haven't seen practices so maybe Zeb and Shulga are both out-playing Nelson at PG. Plus, Shulga's familiarity with the coach can't be overlooked.

Let me add to the speculation and confusion. I haven’t been to a single practice but I see Fats playing both 2 and 3
I can't add to the speculation and confusion, but I will acknowledge it. I have no f'ing idea who is going to play, where they are going to play, or how they are going to play. This is the most blank-slate season I can recall in the history of the program. And I'm going to need a dam program to figure out who the h3ll everyone is at B&G

I'll reiterate something that I brought up a couple hundred pages ago. Don't assume the best player at each position will start in the rotation. Last year USU's best scorer came off the bench for half the season, but an injury forced Odom's hand to switch it up. USU's most productive post player also came off the bench. It's all about maintaining team quality and energy as players sub in/out so there's not a dip in overall performance. I'm fascinated to see how this philosophy translates to a new squad this year.

Perhaps many of us are struggling because we’re stuck in havoc era substitution patterns? I have no idea what to expect because it will be talent deployed in a very different philosophy. Personally, that’s what excites me. Watching our O recent years was very frustrating for me, often painful. I would love to see us regularly score in the 80s. But then I’d be happy if we just hit FTs.

from the sounds of it lawal will play the 4 and get minutes at the 3

Ah yes. The havoc era substitution patterns. Also known at times as momentum killers.

What are you hearing about Belle? Does he have the O now for significant minutes, or will he be more of a work in progress learning this year? From what I’ve read his D and athleticism are big time. I’m hoping he can give us 10 min a game. Is that reasonable with Lawal coming on?

in my limited knowledge belle will be impact player. definitely 10+, at least by the mid point of the season. if bam is out that number may sky rocket.
