“Our Motown family has lost Barrett Strong; a beloved brother and extraordinary songwriter. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones. He collaborated with Norman Whitfield on writing many of our award-winning chart hits from the 60’s and 70’s, such as Grammy-winning,:
‘Cloud Nine,’
‘Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone.’
‘I Can’t Get Next to You,’
‘Psychedelic Shack,’
‘Ball of Confusion (That’s What the World is Today),’
‘Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me),’
‘I Heard It Through the Grapevine.’

He played in Major League Baseball as a catcher from 1959 to 1980, most prominently as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals where, he was a two-time All-Star player and a member of two World Series winning teams, and finished second in voting for the 1967 National League (NL) Most Valuable Player Award. Later in his career while playing for the Philadelphia Phillies, McCarver became known as the regular catcher for Hall of Fame pitcher, Steve Carlton. One of the few major league players to have appeared in four different decades, he also played for the Montreal Expos and the Boston Red Sox.

Sad news from Charlottesville: Former #UVa basketball coach Terry Holland has died.
Terry Holland, the gentlemanly coach who brought Ralph Sampson to Charlottesville and turned the University of Virginia into a college basketball power, has died at the age of 80.

Holland led the Cavaliers to nine NCAA tournament appearances – and two Final Fours – in his 16 years at the school while competing against a who's who of ACC coaching legends, including Dean Smith, Mike Krzyzewski, Lefty Driesell and Jim Valvano.

Holland was diagnosed in 2019 with Alzheimer's Disease and had recently entered a memory care facility.
