To the larger question. We have vcu fans who also root for opposing teams like UNC, UVA, Illinois Maryland, St. Joe's..even FUR...
what difference does it make if I have to root for mason.

I gave great reason too.. My 98 year old mother taught there. One of the founding professors. She was a helluva role model.

No. My masters degree is from UR and I got nauseated every time I stepped on its campus. My feelings about Spiders basketball are considerably worse.

My Masters is also from there, have a good friend that holds some b ball records there, got recruited to play football there and still have no appetite for their basketball team. Mostly because they are our rival, but also because I can’t stand the little snotty nose homogeneous rich prick yankee students that come down here and think they own the place. Bar brawls with them in the Bottom back in the late 80s early 90s contributed to a lot of that.

That makes sense. I used to enjoy watching UR during the tarrant years. They always were so fundamentally sound but the fanbase is a turnoff.
