That loss to Arizona State is looking like the biggest blown opportunity this season. It's too bad because we had them.

And unfortunately those really come back to bite us later it seems. There were 2-3 games we had won last year that could have had us in the ncaa discussion.

That and not getting pummeled by Dayton by 30 at home (short handed or not)....

Of course but that’s where those other games show your overall body of work so they might toss that out as just having a really awful game where everything went wrong no less short handed. Every team has a stinker. The problem was we couldn’t afford stinkers because we didn’t took advantage of the games we had firm control over. Uconn and Davidson were terrible collapses on what would have been good resume builders. Other coaches had stinkers. Shaka had a awful butt kicking at SLU after getting ranked 25th. However we had other good wins to cover those up. This year we don’t have bad losses but we don’t have enough good wins and I’m not sure there’s enough potential ones there for us.

We need Temple which should be a Q1 opportunity. We are going to have to run it up on the rest of our OOC opponents to take advantage of the efficiency and scoring margin portion of the NET formula.

Avoid bad losses and split with SLU and Dayton in conference play.

I was in that UConn game thread last year saying it might be the reason we’re left out of the tournament. OOC neutral court wins against decent competition are so valuable. We’ve let a few slip away.

Both of your examples went bankrupt, so maybe a more updated analogy like:

VCU is the Amazon of the A10
UR is the eBay

i hope that’s where you are going….

Actually, someone from fur had a banner saying the opposite of what I stated at the first game between VCU and fur in the Robins Center back in the 70's.

I've gotten free tickets to this weekends Dayton / SE Louisiana game. It's my first visit to UD arena. It will interesting to see their game day experience. I don't get off work until after game time though.

Interesting, that and 7-1 and can't do any better in Torvik than 195? I know their strength of schedule hasn't been great, but that bad.
If we were 7-1 this board would be clamoring for us to be Top 10!!!:)

It’s fun. They are a super smart fanbase. The band loves to heckle opposing fans. They actually walked up behind me when I was there in full gold trying to get food and started playing songs to my back 😂. They might be in a rougher mood these days patience wise though with their expectations not being met. The fans are very curious though. They loved to ask about VCU. Fair warning though they still think about Shaka so likely they will mention him if you are there in VCU gear and they start talking to you.

Many posters on this board were talking about how Shaka should receive a statue a few days ago so Dayton fans aren't the only ones thinking about him.

I chalk up that up to frustration that those fans feel like we have plateaued and it’s all down hill after Shaka. I think there are many fans who thought we would accomplishing more post Shaka. I dare say many that thought Rhoades would bring more success. Maybe it’s unfair to Rhoades that the expectations have been set so high but that’s where we are. Honestly if Rhoades made a few tourney runs we probably wouldn’t hear about statues of anyone. Coming from a WSH sports sometimes all you can do is look back at good times because the current times are not good. Not that VCU is anywhere near that level of bad but it’s natural for fans to go back to the “good ole days.” I won’t lie I miss days of coming out of OOC feeling like if we were just top 3-4 in the A10 with some good in conference wins we were NCAA bound.

I hear ya on entering conference play feeling like we were an easy at-large team, but that was for a mere 3 seasons: 2012-2013 thru 2014-2015.
Coach Smart had the same amount of teams (3) that were smack dab on the bubble or below (2009-2010) than he had that were safely in the NCAA field by March (3). I LOVED that feeling, don't get me wrong.

Well, let's hope the two Power 5 wins we have this season look really good by year-end.
