No offense to them and I know they're both great schools, but I don't think there's much MR can emulate from those programs to elevate VCU.
You could be correct BUT I have to say that Randolph‑Macon is a DIII power. They run a great offense. They might have better 3 point shooters than VCU.

Speaking of Randolph-Macon....their fans actually have pretty high expectations for basketball. Hal Nunnally was a legend. I used to cover them when I did sports shooting/interviewing for WWBT. I covered Coach Nunnally. Great basketball mind and such a nice man. He brought Coach Rhoades in and I also remember that. Coach Rhoades was young. I cannot remember his age but he was young. He took over for Coach Nunnally and did a fine job continuing their success.

Not to disparage coach Nunnally but isn't his legendary status confined to Virginia versus nationally?

Not sure. He is in the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. He was a great coach.
not in the Va Sports Hall of Fame

great student of the game and absolutely loved basketball and his players and willing to learn how to improve his craft from many of the greats - historian and voracious reader and major aficionado of good cigars and great steaks

MR got a solid foundation of coaching from Hal

First of all, before there was Hal Nunnally there was Paul Webb (few better).... Humble Hal took RMC to 1977 NCAA Division II championship game before losing to Division 1 bound UT-Chattanooga ... it is interesting that Coach Rhoades learned from Nunnally, a master of half-court hoops, and Shaka, the mad scientist who invented Havoc .... can't imagine a better pedigree. Here's another Hal Nunnally fact .... in final regular season game of 1977 season, as a buy game, he beat UR, at UR, in a game that eliminated the Spiders from the postseason. UR held its Senior Night ceremony after the game and it was as sad an occasion as you can imagine.

So surprising you sneaked a buy-game reference into a Hal Hunnally post.

We are near the bottom in the country in assist…can’t get each other looks and can’t make them when we do
And we do have talented guards. Their assists should be higher. It’s how we’re running the offense. Inside out is how we should generate spacing.

Don't take my word for it ... ask Coach Rhoades what his opinion is of Hal Nunnally.
Again, arguing points nobody raised. Nobody is disputing the competence of Nunnally. Questioning is legendary status outside of Virginia.

Curious, does anyone know if we’ve played a game this year we’ve used all our time outs? Our scoring draughts aren’t always from opposing Ds and missing open shots. I’m trying to understand why we try to keep playing through scoring draughts?
