Unfortunately, we barely got to see a healthy Evans. He was our best player since Maynor, when healthy.

But over the banged up Evans? Heck yeah, Ace is better. His vision, control, and passing ability is incredible, assist/turnover ratio as well. He would've made last year's team look much different down the stretch.

To all the folks complaining about Ace: VCU has reduced their number of turnovers through two games by 23% from last year. And that doesn't account for the much stronger opponents this season. AB is largely responsible for that.

He has a 13 assists and 4 turnovers.

He's been great defensively with the 5th best defensive +/- and the 3rd highest steal %.

Some of y'all think you have to be a scoring PG to be great. That is false. Ace may never average more than 10ppg, but he's going to leave here as one of the all-timers.
Complaining? Agreed, Ace has been solid and is looking good especially for a freshman starting at pg on a team that lacks veterans. The last time we had a starting freshman pg (I think) was when Joey was a freshman. However, he had a vet crew and E. Maynor Conference POY, NBA future First Rounder to lean on.

Ace made quite a few passes against Memphis, and hit Hassan with at least 2 dimes that led to easy dunks.

The kid is doing well above expectations.

A major upgrade over who? A healthy Marcus Evans!
Anyone on the team at the pg position the last couple of years. Marcus when healthy could eat freshman Ace's lunch. Heck a health Marcus Evans could do the same to most in the Conference regardless of their experience level.

However, Marcus was and is a Combo guard with a score first mentality. Ace is a pure pg.

They are different players. As just a pg running offense and getting other guys good looks and shots, Ace right now is botter.

Basketball wise a healthy ME is better hands down at this point in Ace's progression. However, Ace is only 3 games in.

So yes, I say Ace is an upgrade at the pg position

Young fella is playing well.

Ace is exactly as advertised - a college ready true point guard. You don't earn First Team All State 3 straight years without serious game. He has great court vision + toughness. After just 3 college games he is 2nd in rebounds, has almost as many assists(19) as the rest of the team combined (22), and is tied for 2nd in steals. He will be a great floor general for our Rams for the foreseeable future.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare Ace and Marcus. They are two completely different pgs. I’m not sure Evans was a natural pg. he is a phenomenal guard and player who can put a team on his back while Ace is as pure a pg as you can get and can facilitate the ball around the offense. Marcus scores more, Ace assists more. Could you imagine if we had one more year with Marcus playing sg right now with Ace feeding the ball?

Ace played great. He was so steady the whole tournament. Doesn't matter if he is not scoring, he is a treat to score. If he is left open he will make the defense pay.

It is so nice having two point guards on the court at once. We are not making the same bone head mistakes we made the last two years. We have a chance in the A10 this year.

Ace played great, especially for a true freshman. There are some things he needs to clean up (those long 2 attempts). He also needs to hit open 3s at a bit higher clip to prevent the D from sagging off him like they did Williams. I'm optimistic both of these things will happen sooner than later.
