I wonder if that means he will be playing before the first of the year or that he is cleared to start being a full participant in practices or something else

It's the latter. If he's been cleared medically, which would be the first step anyways, he'd probably would be held out for another week or two as he's not practiced with the team all year.

I think the most realistic scenario is he's begun practicing with the team again and he's still on track to return next month.

He was practicing with the team last week per the espn announcers—not sure if just referencing shoot arounds or actual practice, but it sounds like has been getting team work for a while now.

I didn't think his post required any speculation, but here we are. I guess I took the post at face value. Just taking it that "I'm back" means "I'm back", I didn't take reading into to gather " I'm back" as I'll be back tomorrow, I'm still being held out for another couple games or another month. I didn't and don't think assumptions have anything to do with this.
