What a lovely thread to return to after my sabbatical. :?

Mike Rhoades has won 67% of his games at VCU, through injury heck, multiple mass exodus, and a COVID outbreak robbing us of an NCAA Tournament appearance. The fact that people here are seriously considering having him fired after we just beat Saint Louis is absurd. We go through this every year. Rhoades isn't going anywhere, and the people calling for his firing need to calm down.

Who even takes this job if you got your wish and fired him? Who guarantees that we don't have a down season? Who guarantees that we make deep Tournament runs every year - and most importantly, who guarantees that they don't up and leave for the first P6 job that opens up, leaving us in the same position again a year later?

We've won 13 of 15 and 5 straight on the road. If we were not prepared to play then, yes, but we seem to be prepared now.
I think we were prepared to play in the games we lost, but the other teams played better than we did. Sometimes folks on here seem to forget that the opponent has paid coaches who scout and players who want to win, too.

I would hold Mike responsible for our OOC performance especially when it is more likely that kept us out than the A-10 not being strong.

It’s a mix of both. We don’t have the leisure to naturally drop games like P5 schools when everyone else craps the bed too. Our league does us no favors. Even P5 schools that lost to midmajors and games they shouldn’t have in the OOC are in position for an at-large, just like we would be if Dayton and SLU had also been a little bit better. It’s all relative.

Y’all are asking for perfection in a span of three games that our best player didn’t play to make up for a crap league.

Jacksonville the only true clunker, but if SLU and Dayton were better this year, winning those games would have likely offset that loss.

To be fair the expectations of fans(Making the NCAAs) is much lower than our AD. He asked coaches during their interviews how will they win a national championship here. That was confirmed by interviewees. It’s why folks like Damion Christian hesitated to move any farther in the process (They didn’t see that as a true realistic goal.) . So other the AD has different expectations than he says in the interviews or he scared prospects away intentionally.

I think he has different expectations now than when he hired Will Wade. College Bball is different now.

Of course every single program in existence wants to go to the tournament win the national championship every year. Having that goal is great. We should keep it. Firing MR now is dumb. Ed’s not an idiot.

What did you say ?
“Jesus wept”

A fairly widely known verse. Commonly understood to be Jesus expressing his sadness and sympathy towards the human condition. I was drawing parallels to my own feelings of sympathy towards whatever human drive gives many of us the need go back and forth repeatedly over the same topic for days on end. Digging heels in deeper and deeper.

Although upon reflection I guess I’m as guilty as any for engaging in this thread through “likes” and what not. I will try to avoid doing so until if and when this thread becomes more appropriate I.e the off-season.

Generally when I've heard it it's standing in for something a little more mildly blasphemous like "For God's sake!" or similar. Wholeheartedly agree with either sentiment though.

Our lack of preparedness then is going to haunt us next month if we don’t take care of business in Brooklyn but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.
