VCU Health didn’t let COVID stop them from firing their CEO two years in. At some point you can’t keep accepting the list of normal excuses or nuances as to why the program isn’t successful and you hold somebody accountable.

This program isn’t going in the right direction. We’re a floundering program in a failing conference.

We don’t need a coach that wants to be here forever. We need a coach that will win. And he can leave if he wins. We’ve dealt with that a few times.

We don’t need a coach that is so loyal to his assistants that he’ll be more loyal to them than to the program that pays him 7 figures a year.

We’ve won zero NCAA Tournament games in 5 years. We’re about to miss the NCAA Tournament in year 6 if we don’t win the A-10 Tournament. Things need to change over the next 3-4 months or this program is DEAD and we can have our own Chris Mooney.
Couple of questions:

1) Do you have faith in the current AD to conduct a national coaching search and find the right head coach or up and coming assistant to lead our program?

2) Are we in a financial situation to eat the remainder of MR's contract and pay a top flight coach or hot up and coming assistant?

We have done well with Florida assistants in the past, right?

I don't know, Jacksonville seemed pretty good and that might be part of it.

What I don't understand is how we can shoot 50% from inside and outside the arc with 80% FTs against Temple (and still lose by 10) and then the very next game shoot like 35%, 15% and 65%

Ace had 7 points
Watkins was 0-16
Tobi only had 3 shots in 24 minutes (all went in)
Our bench played an average of 8 minutes and scored 11 points (7 of those from Banks)
Wasn't Shriver top 20 3pt% in the nation last year?

Do we just not practice shooting at all? Are they too tired? Wtf is going on

I am not ready to say Rhoades needs to go. I know it's his sixth season but I am not in support of firing him.

However, I agree that changes need to be made. I don't know if that means getting new assistant coaches or what. Mike Rhoades is a perfectly capable coach but he needs to surround himself with more talented assistants...and it hurts me to say that because I really like our current batch of assistants personality-wise.

Also, firing a coach with an overall winning record kind of makes the program look even worse than it already does. It sure as heck makes the fan base look bad and validates my issue with their demand for instant gratification that I've had for years (since people wanted Will Wade's head on a silver platter for starting his first season 5-5...and we haven't even reached that point yet, we're 5-4!).

Let’s be honest there were people that wanted Shaka’s head year 1-2. But we’re on year 6. That’s not instant gratification. The rebuild should be long done.

The other points are still valid though.

The problem is things like coaches should have been addressed by now. The offense has been bad every year. The stats support that. Yet no changes. Rhoades is loyal and I can respect that but at some point if you can’t see the problem you are part of the problem.

What does Coach Rhoades winning record actually mean? Coach Rhoades has been here 6 years and doesn't even have a signature big game win. When more than half of your opponents are Net/RIP 150 and up you should win half of your games.
Exactly. We are in a medicore conference with an OOC packed with at home buy games.

I think ”an overall winning record” is an insanely low bar to have.
