A good coach inserts new players before garbage time to get some good evaluation. Malone is not a good coach.
In the NBA a good coach wins games. If you are in win now mode, which the Nuggets are, then there will be less focus on throwing a rookie in key moments to see what he can do. In the franchises mind they have years to develop him. Any PT is special and will help Bones. He just needs to make sure he capitalized on it and does all the little things right.

Malone won’t be there long enough to develop Bones if he keeps playing his crap bench over him.

But here’s the thing… you may have “years” to develop him… but at the same time you only have a limited time to actually see how he fits on your squad. How many years is his rookie deal? What if at the end of his deal Bones decides he doesn’t like sitting on the end of the bench…. And Malone refuses to put him out there in meaningful situations with the starters or even the 2nd team.

Also, you’re not gonna really know how a player fits your system or how good of a player someone is… if you don’t put them in a game in meaningful situations.

Also, lottery pick or not… you shouldn’t take someone in the first round if you have no intent of playing him regular minutes. Bones isn’t injured, doesn’t appear to have a team chemistry issue…. So why is he not playing until the game is in hand?

If that’s his value or his ceiling… you coulda signed him as a UFA after the draft, and saved yourself some money in the process.

Sure even in garbage time, and Bones being a rookie…. Bones needs to take advantage of every minute he gets to show what he can do and make the most of it…. But let’s be honest…. No matter who the players are no matter how many years they’ve played… you are not gonna get the same seriousness out in players in garbage minutes as you would in meaningful minutes with the game on the line.

You know that, we know that, everyone knows that.

Malone also doesn’t help us cause by talking Bones up so much and say “he needs to be thrown out there more”… and then not even play him til the game is in hand.

And hit a midrange pull-up jumper then threw an oop to Gordon! Still down 9.

As an fyi, if you can't get a game cast, yahoo has the game if you go to their sports page and click on the Denver/timberwolves game

Yeah Bones is gonna be scary. Just defended a runner, got the rebound then took it down for a bounce assist, then got another rebound! They were down double digits and he just helped cut it to 4 at halftime! Can't deny him anymore.
